Dolphin Life Key Largo FAQ
1. What happens if it rains on the day of my dolphin program?
Dolphin Life programs usually operate rain or shine. If lightning is detected nearby, guests may be asked to leave the water and wait indoors until it is safe to continue. Once the weather clears and the safety window has passed, the program may resume.
2. What time should I arrive for my dolphin experience?
Guests should plan to arrive about 15 minutes before their scheduled program time. This gives you time to check in, change if needed, and get ready without feeling rushed. When planning your drive, allow extra time for traffic, parking, and finding the facility in Key Largo.
3. What should I bring with me?
Bring a bathing suit, towel, and reef-safe sunscreen. It is best to apply sunscreen before your program so it has time to absorb before you enter the water. If you forget a towel or other small items, some items may be available for purchase on-site.
4. Do I need to speak English to participate?
Guests do not have to speak English as their first language, but safety instructions must be understood. If a participant does not understand English, someone in the group should be able to translate the dolphin caregiver’s directions clearly during the program.
5. Can I bring an underwater camera?
Camera rules depend on the program. For hands-on dolphin interaction programs, cameras are usually not allowed in the water because guests need their hands free and must focus on the dolphins and trainer instructions. Professional photos may be taken during the program and can usually be viewed afterward.
6. Can observers come down to the dock to take photos?
Observers are generally not allowed on the floating dock unless they are officially part of a program and have completed the required waiver. This is for safety and insurance reasons. Observers may still be able to view photos after the session if professional photos are available.
7. Why do participants wear safety vests?
Safety vests are required for guest safety during water programs. Even strong swimmers may need to wear one. The vest helps guests float comfortably and focus on the dolphin interaction instead of working hard to stay in position in the water.
8. Are pets allowed at Dolphin Life?
Pets are not allowed inside the Dolphin Life facility because of the health and safety of the resident animals. Certified service dogs may be permitted if they meet the facility’s requirements, but emotional support animals are not allowed.
9. Can guests feed the dolphins?
Guests do not feed the dolphins during regular interaction programs. Dolphin Life’s animal care team manages all feeding to make sure the dolphins receive the correct diet, proper portions, and safe handling from trained caregivers.
10. Where does the dolphin interaction take place?
The dolphin programs take place at Dolphin Life in Key Largo, Florida. The interactions happen in natural ocean-water lagoons connected to a saltwater canal. Guests do not need to take a boat to participate once they arrive at the facility.
11. How long will I be in the water?
Dolphin Life programs are based more on completing specific dolphin behaviors than on a strict timer. Because the dolphins have their own personalities and may move at different speeds, in-water time can vary. Guests should plan for the full visit experience, including check-in, briefing, tour, and program time.
12. Are the dolphin programs rushed?
No. The programs are designed around the dolphins and the guests. The goal is to complete the planned behaviors at a comfortable pace. Some sessions may move faster, while others may take a little longer depending on the dolphins’ interest and activity that day.
