Frequently Asked Questions

Are dolphin sightings guaranteed on the tour?

Dolphins are seen on most trips, but because they are wild animals, sightings cannot be guaranteed. Their location and activity can change based on weather, tides, feeding patterns, and natural behavior.

Does the trip operate in rainy weather?

Yes, the tour usually runs rain or shine. However, the captain may cancel or delay the trip if conditions become unsafe, such as thunderstorms, strong winds, or rough seas. If the operator cancels due to weather, guests may reschedule or receive a full refund.

What kind of boat is used for the dolphin trip?

Most tours are operated on a custom 24-foot Aquasport boat with shaded areas, comfortable seating, dry storage, a freshwater rinse, stereo system, swim platform, easy-entry ladder, and modern safety equipment.

What should I bring with me?

Guests should wear or bring swimwear and come ready for time on the water. A towel, reef-safe sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, and a change of clothes are also helpful for comfort after snorkeling.

What time of year is best for this dolphin tour?

The tour is available year-round. April through October often brings warmer water, calmer seas, and better visibility, but winter trips can still be beautiful and enjoyable in the Florida Keys.

Can beginners snorkel on this trip?

Yes, beginners are welcome as long as they can swim and feel comfortable in the water. The captain can provide basic snorkeling instruction, and flotation vests or noodles may be available for extra support. Guests who prefer not to snorkel can stay on the boat and enjoy the scenery.

How long does it take to reach the dolphin area?

The route changes depending on dolphin activity and sea conditions. Travel time to common dolphin areas is usually about 30 to 45 minutes, and dolphins are sometimes spotted along the way.

Is seasickness common on this trip?

Seasickness is not common because the boat often travels through calmer, shallow waters near the islands. Guests who are sensitive to motion may want to use their preferred motion sickness remedy before the trip.

How deep is the water during the tour?

Dolphin viewing areas are often around 5 to 20 feet deep. Snorkel stops are commonly in 5 to 15 feet of water. When conditions allow, the captain may also visit shallow sandbar areas that can be about 3 to 5 feet deep.

Where does the boat go for dolphins and snorkeling?

The captain chooses the route based on weather, water clarity, and dolphin activity. Trips may explore areas around Key West, including nearshore Atlantic waters, Gulf waters, and backcountry mangrove islands where dolphins are commonly found.

Is this trip good for children?

Yes, this tour can be a great family activity. Families with very young children may prefer a private charter for more flexibility. Children under 6 are required by Coast Guard rules to wear a life jacket while on the boat.

Will guests swim with wild dolphins?

No, this is a wild dolphin observation tour. Guests watch dolphins from the boat while respecting their natural behavior. If dolphins are feeding, resting, traveling, or socializing, the captain keeps a safe and respectful distance.

What can I expect on the tour?

Guests can expect a mix of wild dolphin viewing, snorkeling, local marine life, and backcountry scenery. The experience is designed to be relaxing, educational, and connected to the natural beauty of Key West.

Do I get a refund if dolphins are not seen?

No refunds are given if dolphins are not encountered, since they are wild animals and their behavior cannot be controlled. While sightings are common, every trip depends on nature.
