Florida Keys Dolphin Tours & New Ocean Adventures

New Florida Keys Dolphin, Snorkel, Shark, Ray, Kayak and Paddle Board Adventures Are Here

Hi, this is John the Dolphin Expert, and I am really excited to share some new updates on our Florida Keys Dolphin website. Over the years, I have always tried to give families, couples, cruise travelers, and ocean lovers the best choices for enjoying dolphins, marine life, snorkeling, and the natural beauty of the Florida Keys.

Now we have added even more activities, plus hotel and car rental suggestions, to help make planning your Florida Keys vacation easier. Whether you are coming from Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Key Largo, Islamorada, or driving all the way down to Key West, I want you to have more options and a better vacation experience.

For this update, I have broken the Upper Keys into two main sections: Key Largo and Islamorada. Both are wonderful places to enjoy marine life, but the experiences are a little different. I want to explain those differences so you can pick the right activity for your family.

Swimming with Dolphins Key Largo: New Dolphin Programs Added

One of the biggest updates is that we have added two dolphin programs in Key Largo. Many people remember this location as Dolphins Plus, but today it is known as Dolphin Life. This facility offers a beautiful natural saltwater lagoon setting where guests can enjoy dolphins in a more focused and relaxed way.

The two new programs are the Key Largo Dolphin Swim and the Key Largo Dolphin Encounter. These programs are different from the dolphin programs we offer in Islamorada, and that is a good thing because it gives you more choices.

Why Choose the Key Largo Dolphin Swim?

The Key Largo Dolphin Swim is a great choice for guests who want a more personal dolphin experience and do not need a full-day park visit. One big advantage is that your digital photos are included with the Key Largo dolphin programs. For many families, that is a huge value because dolphin photos are some of the best memories you can bring home from your vacation.

The Key Largo program usually takes about 1 1/2 to 2 hours at the facility. There are no shows or exhibits included, so this is more of a direct dolphin experience. You arrive, check in, enjoy your dolphin program, get your photos, and then you still have time to enjoy the rest of Key Largo or continue your Florida Keys road trip.

A Great Option for Miami and Fort Lauderdale Guests

Another big advantage of Swimming with Dolphins Key Largo is the location. If you are driving from Miami, Fort Lauderdale, or anywhere in South Florida, Key Largo is about 30 minutes closer than Islamorada. That may not sound like much, but when you are traveling with kids, grandparents, or a group, saving time on the road can make a big difference.

If you are deciding whether or not to drive to the Keys, this closer location can be a big selling point. You still get a wonderful dolphin experience, but you do not have to drive as far down the Overseas Highway.

Key Largo Christ of the Abyss Snorkel Trip

Another exciting activity we added is the Key Largo Christ of the Abyss Snorkel Trip. This is one of the most famous snorkeling experiences in the Florida Keys, and for good reason.

Many guests come to Key Largo because they want to see the iconic underwater statue of Christ in the ocean. The Christ of the Abyss statue is a bronze statue of Jesus with His arms raised upward. It sits in the clear waters near Key Largo and has become one of the most recognized underwater landmarks in the Florida Keys.

A Little History of Christ of the Abyss

The Florida Keys Christ of the Abyss statue was placed underwater in 1965. It is a casting of the original Italian statue, “Il Cristo degli Abissi,” created by Italian sculptor Guido Galletti in the 1950s. The statue was given as a gift and placed in the waters of what is now one of the most beloved snorkel and dive areas in Key Largo.

Today, snorkelers and divers visit this site not only because of the statue, but also because of the tropical fish, coral reef, and peaceful feeling of being in the ocean. For many guests, seeing Christ of the Abyss is spiritual, beautiful, and unforgettable.

Swim with Dolphins Florida Keys: Islamorada Activities at Theater of the Sea

Now let’s move a little farther down the Upper Keys to Islamorada. Islamorada is still part of the Upper Keys, but the experience here is different from Key Largo. At Theater of the Sea, you can spend much more time at the park. This is a great choice for families who want shows, exhibits, animal presentations, and a full day of marine life fun.

We still offer dolphin programs in Islamorada, but now we have added even more activity choices at Theater of the Sea.

Islamorada Shark Swim

One of the most exciting additions is the Islamorada Shark Swim. My daughter and I did this activity together, and we had a blast. I will be honest with you, she was really frightened at first. I think most people hear the word “shark” and get nervous right away.

But once you realize how gentle nurse sharks are, the whole experience changes. These are not aggressive sharks like people imagine from movies. The staff helps you feel comfortable, and before long, my daughter was able to relax and really enjoy being in the water with them.

This is a great activity for adventurous families, teens, and anyone who wants to do something unique in the Florida Keys.

Islamorada Sting Ray Swim

We have also added the Islamorada Ray Swim. This is a fun and interactive activity where you can play and swim with stingrays in a natural saltwater lagoon.

What I really like about this program is the value. The price includes general admission to Theater of the Sea, so after your ray swim, you can enjoy the park, shows, and exhibits. This makes it a great choice for families with children ages 5 and up.

The rays are graceful, gentle, and amazing to watch underwater. For many kids, this may be their first time getting close to a stingray, and it can become one of the highlights of their Florida Keys vacation.

General Admission to Theater of the Sea

We also added General Admission to Theater of the Sea. This is a great choice if you want a fun marine-life day but do not want to do an in-water animal program.

General Admission lets you enjoy the dolphin show, sea lion show, parrot show, and animal exhibits. You can see sharks, turtles, birds, alligators, tropical fish, and more. It is a very nice value, and we even offer a slight discount to help families with their vacation budget.

If you have younger children, grandparents, or anyone in your group who prefers to stay dry, General Admission is a great way to enjoy marine animals without getting in the water.

Swim with Dolphins Near Key West and New Lower Keys Adventures

Now for guests traveling all the way to Key West, we have added some amazing new activities in the Lower Keys. A lot of people search for Swim with Dolphins near Key West, but it is important to understand that Key West is more known for wild dolphin tours, snorkeling, sandbars, kayaking, paddle boarding, and eco adventures.

If you are staying in Key West and want to see dolphins, the wild dolphin tours are a wonderful choice.

Key West Private Wild Dolphin Tour, Sandbar and Snorkel Trip

One of the best new options is the Key West Private Wild Dolphin Tour, Sandbar and Snorkel Trip. This is perfect for guests who want special attention and a more private experience.

This private tour is great for 1 person up to 6 people. You can look for wild dolphins, spend time at a beautiful sandbar, and snorkel in the clear waters around Key West. You may see tropical fish and other marine life while enjoying a more personal day on the water.

For families, couples, or small groups, private Key West Wild Dolphin Tours are a great way to enjoy the ocean without being on a crowded boat.

Lazy Dog Key West Kayak and Paddle Board Eco Tours

I am also really happy to reconnect with Lazy Dog Outfitters in Key West. I used to sell these tours in the past, and it is great to have them available again on our website.

2 Hour Key West Kayak Eco Tour

The most popular tour they offer is the 2 Hour Kayak Eco Tour. This is an easy paddle through the mangroves of Key West. Almost anyone can enjoy it, even if you are new to kayaking.

I definitely need to bring my family to do this tour again. It is peaceful, scenic, and a great way to see the quieter side of Key West. Instead of just walking Duval Street or sitting by the pool, you get to explore the mangrove backcountry and see the natural beauty of the island.

Key West Paddle Board Eco Tour

The other tour we added is the Key West Paddle Board Eco Tour. This tour is also about 2 hours long and takes you through the mangroves of Key West.

Paddle boarding gives you a higher view of the water, which makes it easier to look down and spot marine life. You may see birds, coastal fish, rays, and sometimes even manatees in the mangrove areas. It is another easy paddle and a fun way to enjoy Key West from the water.

Hotel and Car Rental Suggestions for Your Florida Keys Vacation

Along with these new activities, we are also adding hotel and car rental suggestions to help make planning easier. The Florida Keys are spread out over many miles, so having a car is one of the best ways to explore.

If you are flying into Miami, Fort Lauderdale, or Key West, renting a car can give you the freedom to visit Key Largo, Islamorada, Marathon, and Key West at your own pace. You can enjoy a dolphin swim in Key Largo, a full park day in Islamorada, and then continue down to Key West for wild dolphins, kayaking, paddle boarding, sunsets, shopping, and great restaurants.

The Keys are not just one destination. They are a chain of islands, and every area has its own personality. That is why I want to give you more activity choices and planning tools, so you can build the vacation that is right for you.

My Final Thoughts from John the Dolphin Expert

I really hope you enjoy these new activities we have added to the Florida Keys Dolphin website. My goal has always been to help you find the best marine-life experiences, whether that is a dolphin swim, dolphin encounter, snorkel trip, shark swim, ray swim, wild dolphin tour, kayak tour, or paddle board adventure.

If you are coming from South Florida, Key Largo may be the easier and closer choice. If you want a full marine park day with shows and exhibits, Islamorada and Theater of the Sea may be perfect for you. If you are heading all the way to Key West, the private wild dolphin tour, kayak eco tour, and paddle board tour are wonderful ways to enjoy the ocean and mangroves.

Thank you for trusting me, John the Dolphin Expert, to help plan your Florida Keys vacation. I am always looking for ways to make your dolphin vacation even better.
