Dolphin Safari Key West Cancellation Policy

No Refunds for No-Shows or Late Arrivals: Guests who fail to show up or arrive late for their scheduled tour will not be eligible for a refund.
Weather-Related Cancellations: If the tour is canceled due to unsafe weather conditions, such as high winds, heavy rain, or thunderstorms, guests will have the option to reschedule or receive a full refund.
Reservation Changes & Cancellations: All bookings are non-refundable. However, modifications may be accommodated if requested at least 48 hours in advance, subject to availability.
Minimum Guest Requirement: If the tour does not meet the minimum number of participants required to operate, guests will be given the choice to reschedule or receive a refund.
Tour Operates Rain or Shine: The trip will proceed in most weather conditions. Light rain or cloudy skies do not qualify for a cancellation or refund.

While dolphin sightings occur on nearly every trip, they cannot be 100% guaranteed. Encounters depend on factors such as dolphin activity, weather, and sea conditions.

Does the program go on rain or shine?
Yes, the program operates rain or shine. If weather conditions are unsafe, such as high winds, heavy rain, or thunderstorms, the trip may be canceled. In such cases, you will receive a 100% refund or the option to reschedule.

What type of boat is used for the trip?
Most trips use a custom-designed 24′ Aquasport with a 2007 Honda 225 hp environmentally friendly engine. The boat features ample shade, comfortable seating, dry storage, a freshwater shower, an easy-entry swim platform with a custom ladder, a stereo sound system, and advanced safety equipment.

What should I bring?
All you need is your bathing suit or swimwear.

What is the best season to interact with dolphins?
The tour operates year-round. The best conditions for calmer seas, warmer water, and clearer visibility are typically from April through October. Winter months also provide a wonderful experience.

Can I participate if I’ve never snorkeled before?
Yes! If you can swim and are comfortable in the water, the boat captain will provide a snorkeling lesson. Top-quality snorkel gear is available for all ages, including various mask sizes, Force Fins, Oceanmaster dry snorkels, and snorkel flotation vests. Noodles are also available for surface floating. Guests can choose to remain on the boat and still enjoy the experience.

How far is the dolphin playground?
The location varies depending on weather and dolphin activity. Travel time to one of the playgrounds is typically 30 to 45 minutes, with dolphins often encountered along the way.

Am I likely to get seasick?
Seasickness is uncommon as the boat travels in calm, shallow waters near the islands. If you’re prone to motion sickness, consider taking over-the-counter medication like Dramamine, or try natural alternatives such as ginger or Sea Bands.

How deep is the water?
Dolphin encounters generally occur in waters 5 to 20 feet deep, while snorkeling sites range from 5 to 15 feet. If the boat captain takes you to a shallow sandbar areas of 3 to 5 feet are also available, ideal for children and beginner swimmers.

Where do we go to see dolphins and snorkel?
The route varies depending on weather and sea conditions. Guided by the captain’s experience, the trip typically explores coastal Atlantic waters, the Gulf of Mexico, and the backcountry mangrove islands around Key West. Most excursions stay close to shore, where dolphins live.

Will children enjoy the trip?
Yes, the trip is suitable for children of all ages. Private charters are recommended for families with infants or toddlers. Coast Guard regulations require children under 6 years old to wear life preservers throughout the trip, which are provided. A liability release must be signed by a parent or guardian for unaccompanied minors under 16.

Will I swim with wild dolphins?
No, this is an observation program. Guests observe and learn about wild dolphins from the boat, respecting their natural behaviors. If dolphins are feeding, sleeping, or mating, they will be observed from a non-disruptive distance.

The layout of the park and the thoughtful staggering of the show times were particularly impressive. This allowed us to enjoy all the presentations at a relaxed pace, without ever feeling rushed. As someone who has recently undergone two knee replacements, I was pleasantly surprised and very grateful for how accessible and manageable the park was to navigate. It was not at all strenuous, which allowed me to fully immerse myself in the experience without any discomfort. One of the absolute highlights of our day was the "Swim with the Dolphins" experience in the deeper water. The staff overseeing this program were incredibly knowledgeable, professional, and continued to be just as friendly and accommodating as everyone else we encountered. Again, I found this activity to be perfectly manageable despite my recent surgeries, which speaks volumes about its thoughtful execution. Beyond the fantastic guest experience, what truly resonated with us was the palpable kindness and care shown towards all the animals. It is evident that the well-being of your residents is a top priority. Learning about your commitment to rescue and rehabilitation for animals that cannot care for themselves further solidified our appreciation for Theater of the Sea's mission. The interaction and swimming with the dolphins was just so mesmerizing. I did not think twice, no hesitation at all.  The dolphin show was out of this world.  The trainers do an amazing job.  I'm my opinion the show surpassed Sea World. I came home and told my girlfriend all about and she wants to experience this also. I told her I do it again in a heartbeat. We made such a great memory that will last a lifetime. I’ve swam with dolphins in the past and my experience in Florida definitely topped it! The people who work there truly love these dolphins. I read a couple of reviews before I booked because I wanted to make sure it would be worth it, it is. I had seen where someone had mentioned the time they got to spend with the dolphins, I can only assume they chose a different package than I chose because, we had plenty of time with them and each person in the group got a chance with them. The only issue I had was the gift shop. I wanted to get a sticker with the dolphins that I got to swim with, but unfortunately they are the popular dolphins and no stickers were available. If anyone on staff sees this, I'd pay for these stickers when they come in if it would be possible to send them to me (I can provide the dates I was there if that would help). 😊 Overall a great experience. I would recommend this to anyone; Adults & Kids (age appropriate of course). Bucket List: ✅
